The fall of Byzantine
After years of great rule and military greatness the Byzantines Empires trade route was weakened after their war with the Turks. Another problem they had was that after the first wave of Turkish warriors retreated, a new group of Turks, the Ottomans suddenly appeared. The Ottomans built a powerful military throughout their rule of almost 600 years. They considered themselves fierce Islamic warriors dedicated to fighting a "holy" war against people who did not believe in their religion. They took over the leadership held by the Seljuk Turks, and then began to invade the Byzantine empire. By 1350, they controlled most of western Asia Minor.
The city was protected by 14 miles of walls that had withstood under 2 dozen sieges in over 1,000 years. What is known as the great siege of Constantinople began in April of 1453. The Byzantine defenders courage was successful in pushing back all attempts to break through walls that protected the city. However, a small gate that had been left open sealed the fate of the city. The Ottomans were finally able to break through and after a short time where able to take over the city. Byzantines emperor Constantine XI bravely led a final attempt to save his city. After his death the 123 year old Byzantine empire also died.
